OBITUARY

MR G. H. DIXON. _ Mr George H. Dixon; of Auckland, Rugby football administrator, has died at the age of 80. He was born ait Huddersfield (Yorkshire) and ,eamV to New Zealand at the age of 19. He was manager of the 1905' All Blacks to Britain, and was "a journalist with ijthe “Observer” and “Free Lance,” and “Times,” Wellington. Two years ago he celebrated his golden wedding. His wjfe, who survives him,* is prominently associated with women’s organisations at Auckland and Wellington. .

MRS M. ROWE. The death occurred at “the Hastings Hospital on Sunday evening of Mrs Margaret Rowe, aged 78 yeprs, a former resident of the West- Coast. Her death was caused through a fall in which she broke her thigh, the accident being followed by a stroke. She was a native of Cornwall, England, and arrived at Wellington in the sailing. ship, Rakaia, 61 'years ago after a three-months ‘ voyage. She resided for 30 years in TaylorVitle, ,and the remainder of her life in Hastings, where she resided with her daughter. Her husband, James Rowe, .was killed in the Brunner mine explosion on March 26th, 1896/ and she was left with eight children. * She was one of the few surviving widows'of the* Brunner disaster. She leaves two sons (William and Frank, of Greymouth), and tivo daughters (Mrs Wain, of Christchurch), and Mrs Allan (of Hastings).

MR A. S. HOUSTON. (Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON, March 19. The death has occurred of Mr A. S. Houston, secretary to the Department of Agriculture. He served for 37 years in various Government departments, and took a prominent part in the activities of the Public Service. Association. He was a member of the Public Service Appeal Board, and saw service in the South African War. He leaves a widow but- no family.
