Damage estimated at some hundreds of pounds was caused by a fire which .broke out in a workshop at the real* of a.,block of business premises in Wairoa early, this morning. The workshop, which was a large, corrugated iron building, was totally destroyed, together with stock valued at about £l5O. Mrs McGregor, proprietress of a library and confectionery store nearby, had a narrow escape. She lives at the bade of the shop with her daughter, and they awoke with the room filled with smoke. They were rescued but Mrs McGregor was overcome by fumes and had to be admitted to hospital.
