' MEETING HELD. .* . { ' Mr J. R. Taylor presided at the special meeting of the Hokitika Sports Club held on Wednesday evening to receive the provisional statement of receipts and expenditure for the Easter meeting. There were present : Messrs J. Phillips, J. Schroeder, E. Rankin, H. Wells, D. Gillespie, J. P. Coulson, H. Steele, D. Stuart, J. Bannister, and E. W. Heenan, Apologies were hiade for G. Adamson, C. L. Harper and F. McGregor. The statement disclosed a loSs of £6l Is 4d for the day. The meeting adopted the statement, and, instructed the secretary to pay out the prize monies in full. Votes of thanks were accorded to Kanieri Hokitika Sawmills, Mr Thompson of Manama, and Mr Janies Johnson for donations received.

The secretary was instrhcted td forward a letter of thanks to the Stdtionmaster for the excellent passenger service arranged for the day. The (Chairman stated that the special fast service from Greymouth to Hokitika was greatly appreciated by patrons and competitors. The Club expressed appreciation to all who- rendered assistance on the day of the sports, , The help of all was greatly appreciated. In support of. the resoluMr Phillips stated that every day in Hokitika one was confronted with some appeal from outside the district, and a little help towards our own sporting bodies would not go amiss. The Club’s activities were appreciated, and he was certain the people would respond to the art unibn. It was agreed to convene a general meeting during the. first week in July to elect the officers, and to incorpbrate the Club on a membership basis. At the July meeting the Chairman invited members to submit events for th e December nfeeting to be held on Boxing Day in Hokitika. It was the intention of the Club to make this meeting one of the' belt on the West Coast, •’ and all classes of sport would be catered for.

The Chairman reported to the meeting thfit oil sports day he had received very great praise for the management and control of the chopping events. The rigging of the logs, and drawing of logs left little to be desired, and the competitors appreciated the new idea, and the saving in time during the day was the biggest factor. The engagement of Guyatt, 1 the Australian cyclist, proved immensely popular, the Australian proving himself tfr be one of the greatest riders yet to visit the Coast. Before leaving oh his return to Melbourne, Guyatt expressed satisfaction for the hospitality extended to him, and was sorry that time would not permit him to visit some of the scenic gems of Westland. He was indeed sorry to have to refuse the President’s invitation to spend a week in Westland as the guest of the Sports Chib but lie had to return to his work.

Guyatt expressed complete satisfaction with the cycling track, and said that after the first event, the half niile, he was quite at home on the track, and it was very fast on the day. The statement of receipts - and expenditure for tlie day was as follows: — Receipts: Gates £47 16s, side shows £lO, nominations £93 l2s, proceeds of dance £1 17 s, guessing sheep £6 10s, booths, etc., £l9 11s sd, programmes £l 35,-refunds £5 18s 9d. Total: £212 8s 2d. Expenditure: Government tax £lO, prize money, chopping, £BB, cycling £36, running trophies £l3 10s, dancing trophies £l2 10s. A total of £l5O.
