A BROADCAST

CAUSES SOME DISCUSSION. \

.Per ±*resa Association—Copyright)

WELLINGTON, Aug, 8

Almost the sole topic of conversa.tion in Parliament Buildings to-day js the broadcast given over Station 2 Zb last evening by Mr C. G. Scrimgeour (Director, of ]the Commercial Broadcasting Service). The address contained /numerous references to polias well as to members of the National Party outside the House or Representatives, and it can be stated with reasonable certainty that '. the Opposition 1 will endeavour to have the •matter fully ventilated when ; the House meets to-morrow.

The exact foriti in which members of the Opposition v will make their protest, against Mr Scrimgeour’s broadcast is not yet known, but it will probably be determined as a caucus of the party to be held to-morrow evening. There were only four members of the Opposition in Wellington to-day, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Mr W. J. Broadfoot. Mr W. A. Bodkin, and the Hon. Sir Apirana JTgata, but the majority of the remaining members will return to-fnorrow morning. However, the Leader ot the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, who has been spending the week-end at Invercargill, is ’not likely to return to Wellington until Wednesday.

at least two members of Parliament were mentioned by name inutile broadcast, it is not likely that thh Opposition will raise , the nuestftfh of privilege. A more Jikely course is a motion for an adjournp ment of the House at the ~startl -of to-morrow’s sitting. , This course can be taken for the discussion of a definite matter of urgent public importance, and it rests with Mr Speaker to determine" whether the auestion comes within this category. In normal circumstances the matter could he fully ventilated hv the financial debate, ' which is at present in progress; but 15 Opposition members have already taken part in this discussion, and are not .entitled, to speak again. This position could be. overcome by t^e”- moving of an amendment r |x> the motion,; which gives rise to the financial debate.
