After some discussion the request was granted subject to no extra work being entailed the caretaker, and the room being left as originally 'found. The motion was carried, on show of hands, tw.o commiuteemen, Messrs R. Pedder and L" ' King dissentiug. Messrs J. Havill and A. Muir, representing the Kaihinu School Committee, waited on the Coni|iittee regarding dental clinic work. f

The Chairman extended them a hearty welcome, and invited them to state their case.

Mr Havill thanked the Chairman for his welcome, and in reply said that the interests of his Committee had been aroused at finding the Kaihinu School children had not, according to a report received from the headmistress, received dental attention for about 18 months. The committee had paid their allotments towards the upkeep of a dental nurse in the district, artd it seemed strange that no service had been given there for so long. 'About 40 pupils were eligible for treatment.

T,he Chairman at soinie length to the visiting committeemen the position regarding dental treatment in the district, and. assured them that from a statement given to hi.m by Nurse Spiers that Kaihinu school children would receive attention in the near future, possibly some time during next month. Further- questions hearing on the position* were jasked and answered to the satisfaction * of the deputation, who thanked the Chairman'for his lueic;! explanation, and the Committee for its hearing. RECTOR’S REPORT.

Mr J. G. Johnston (lector) reported for the month of July as follows: *, “The roll number is as follows; Secondary: hoys 60, girls 53; total 113. Primary : 179 boys ; 140 girls ; 1 total 319. During the month three hoys or the Secondary Department left school to take up positions. Five cases of measles*and two of scarlet fever have been reported to me. While I admit it is necessary to take precautions, I must comment off the bad attendance

to-day—llo children absent out of 431>.

“The school was recently visited by the Technical ijSchool Inspectors (3), the School Doctor, and the Instructor in Agriculture. Two dental nurses are now iii attendance at the Dental Clinic.

“Inter-School game’s have been played witli Greymouth Technical High School (at Greymouth), Greymouth Main School (at Hokitika and at Greymouth), Roefton District High 96h00l (at Hokitika); the Hokitika Convent, and the Rangiora High School (at Rangiora). I should like to express my thanks to those parents who billetted children from Reefton and to the Principal, staff, pupils, and parents of Rangiora High School for the hospitality so lavishly , extended to our pupils last week. One and all thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Rangiora.

“The School will close for the Term Holidays on Friday, 19th August, and resume on Monday, sth September.”
