VIOLENT GALE
AUSTRALIAN STATES SWEPT. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, Sept. 19. The Eastern States of Australia were swept by a violent gale yesterday, whipping up clouds of dust. The gale marred the Royal Show at Adelaide, razing the marques. It also spoiled the sporting fixtures in Melbourne. The races at Mentone were obscured by the pull of red dust. There were similar conditions in Sydney. The sailing races here wore spoiled. Many boats were overturned in the harbour, but the crews were rescued.
Considerable damage was done to property, and to orchards in the three States.
