STUD EWES

WORRIED TO DEATH. (Pet Press Association —Copyright) HASTINGS, June 11. Seven valuable stud Southdown ewes worried by dogs, were lost on Tuesday afternoon by Phil Drummond, on his farm at Puketapu. Drummond fortunately arrived cn the scene in time to catch two dogs, otherwise his loss would have been much greater. Drummond had his 39 stud ewes, which were due to lamb in August, in a paddock adjacent to a road. Returning home about 3.30 in the afternoon, lie noticed some of the ewes in a group and showing signs of being a little agitated. He later noticed two dogs among the ewes. The approach,, of Drummond ancf an employee did not disturb the dogs in their terocious work, and they did not desist till called off by the owners, who had been summoned by Drummond. Both dogs were immediately killed. The ewes were extensively mutilated, and the condition of two other ewes is such that their recovery is unlikely..
