BEAUTIFYING

KANIERI SOCIETY MEETS. A meeting of the : Kanieri Beautifying Society was held on 'Tuesday evening in the Hall with the following present:—Messrs C. HowatT (chairman), R. Boucher, G.' Morris, F. H. Bristow, and secretary. Apologies: Messrs A. R. Elcock and F. Selby. The m.nutes were read and confirmed, correspondence read and approved. The balance sheet of the ball showed receipts, £22 Os 6d, expenses £l3 10 4d with- £9 17s 2d profit. The guinea beauty prize was uonated by Mr Elcock.

Letters of thanks were passed to bo senfc to Miss Learmont' and her other lady helpers with the supper arrangements, to Mr Lawn and Mr Bristow. The secretary advised having received donations from Mr 6. McGuigan of Arahura, and Mr E. Eade of Hokitika, which with members fees ami .other moneys made the cash in hand £22 4s 2d.

The Westland County advised that the Society’s request to have Kanieri declared a “closely populated area,” with the 30 m.p.h. speed limit, had received the support of the County, and application forwarded. The Automobile Association advised that the application for two signs indicating “School” were consented to, and the signs were now m the hands of the Public Works- Department to place in position.

Mr Jas. O’Brien, M.P., advised that the matter of Forsytlpsi Hill, .tvafr:.receiving consideration fromttliooHon'R.' Semple, Minister of v Public'' Woi-ks.-in conjunction with the Main Highways Department. The matter of title over sections to form part of the proposed Coronation Park, was discussed at length, and it was decided to invite the Hall Committee to have them included in their title, and an agreement be drawn up between the Hall Committee and Beautifying Society concerning the ground not used by the Hall. 1 The Hall Committee met in the Hall following the Beautifying Society, and a satisfactory agreement adopted. Tt was decided to make alterations to the supper room in the ball, and extend it into gents dressing room which will he extended into the front of hall, and the ceiling of supper room and dressing room lined. It was decided to hold a late night dance at. regular intervals, the dates to be advertised later.
