GAOL SENTENCES

SERIOUS GISBORNE OFFENCES. (Per Press Association —Copyright). GISBORNE, November 5. Found guilty yesterday of carnal knowledge of twelve and thirteen-year-old sisters, wards of the State who had been entrusted to his care, John Raymond Nicholson, married, aged 42, was to-day sentenced by Mr Justice Synith to four years’ reformative detention. The evidence had disclosed that accused had repeatedly interfered with the girls, the offences again'st the elder commencing when she was only seven years. Three other prisoners, Albert Ernest Knight, aged 22, Robert John Corscadden, aged 21, and James M Mdlan, aged 23, after true bills had been returned, pleaded guilty to offences against a girl of fourteen, who was described by counsel and the judge as being oversexed. Each was sentenced to three months’ hard , labour.

A Maori, Sammy Horomia, aged 21, who had obtained the consent of her foster parents to live with a girl under fourteen, also received a sentence of three months’.
