FESTIVAL SEASON

►SPORTS MEETING

A meeting of the ,Sports Committee, Mr F. McGregor in the chair, was held at the' County Chambers last evening, when matters for the monster sports meeting on the Hokitika race course on Friday, December 27, were finalised.

The day’s proceedings will open with the big festival parade starting from the Government building. Four bands, Hokitika, Boss, Kokatalii, ,and Bunanga will participate, and there will be a number of displays and tableaux, and decorated vehicles. The procession moves via Revell Street to Hampden Street, and the racecourse, where the sports commence at one o’clock. .

The following officials were appointed :

Referee, Mr S. A. Darby; timekeepers, Messrs R. Lynn, R. Tennent and J. Breeze; cycling judges, Messrs M. Houston, J. Havill and D. Breeze; starter, Mr J. J. Williams; handicapers, Messrs G. E. Perkins and R. Collett; stewards, Messrs J. Havill, D. Breeze, J. Davern, H. Wells, E. Heen. an, R. Collett, R. Herring and H. Kortegast. .

Running and field events—Judges, Messrs M. Houston, ,T. Havill and D. Breeze, starter Mr J. J. Williams; handicapper, Mr G. E. Perkins; stewards, Messrs J. Havill, D. Breze, J. Davern, H. Wells, E. Heenan, R. Collett, R. Herring and H. Kortegast. Whippet races under control of the Eunollie Whippet Racing Club. Megaphone announcer, Mr E. Heenan. Votes of thanks were passed to donors of trophies for the gifts for whippet racing, cycling and dancing. Admission rates to the sports were fixed at ladies Is, genetlemen Is 6d, children 6d. A number of juvenile events will he held during the afternoon conducted, by a special committee. Bands will be in attendance at the meeting throughout the day. Entries for all events at the sports meeting close with the secretary, Mr K. T. Stoop on Wednesday next.
