Although most of Britain is experiencing a spell of sunshine after welcome rains, which have diminished water shortage anxieties dense fog is being experienced round the coasts. The Dutch motor vessel, Westlaan, went ashore in dense fog at Portland Hill during the night and, members of the crew, the captain, and his wife and two children were brought ashore by breeches buoy. The Westlaan was refloated this morning. The schooner, Mary Miller, is also ashore in the thick fog off Dungeness Point. She is in no danger unless the wind freshens, an c ] it is hoped to refloat her during the day. Meanwhile two lifeboats and the Dungeness life saving crew are standing. by.
