The. unfourable weather last evening did not interfere with the: attendance at the Municipal Band’s Dance, there being a splendid attendance and all thorongly enjoyed themselves. Mrs 10. These dances are becoming more popular each week, and those who have not been along should pay a visit to All Saints’ Hall on Wednesday week wheft they will he guaranteed good music, good floor and a very efficient M. The Kokatahi Football Club’s ball in the Public Hall Kokatahi last night drew a large attendance, in spite of the very heavy downpour that continued throughout the evening. Capital music was supplied by the Ross Orchestra, and dancing was continued until an hour. Messrs S. Godfrey. and -A. Stephens being in charge of the floor. The lucky spot was won by Miss Chesterman and Mr J, Bell and.ithe. Monte Carlo by Miss Staines and,AH' J>. French. An enjoyable supper/ wop provided by the ladies committee. • :

Mi- Thomas Crough, 'an old and highly respected settler of Kokatahi, passed .away. yesterday afternoon at his residence Kanierj road, A native of County Tipperary, Ireland, deceased had attained the ripe age of 93 years. He came to New Zealand 70 years ago and to Westland in the early days, and settled on a farm at Lower Kokatahi which he carried on successfully for many years. He was a noted ploughman and one of the first directors of Kokatahi Dairy Factory. He retired from active participation in .farming some years ago, his son ..taking over the farm and 1 .then 1 he came "to & resid'd ..ip Hokitika, During his .long residence in the district Mr .Crough won, a wide circle of friends 1 who will deeply regret Lis passing.. He was a typical pioneer, hard working and energetic, carving out a home in the early days. His wife predeceased him many years ago. He leaves one son, (Mr Thos. Crough of Kokatahi). and three daughters (Mrs -Stephens of Mananui, Mrs Fed dock and Miss P. Crough of Hokitika). The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon.
