A five-roomed house and its contents owned by' Mr H. Meadhwcroft, of Blackball, were destroyed by fire yesterday- morning at two o’clock'. When discovered by r Mr Swinley, who was staying in the house, the fire had a firm hold in the kitchen, and it was impossible to save anything. Mrs Meadowcroft was in Grevmouth, that "ir-ht. Th 3 i building: was insured ■ for £296. and the furniture for £IOO, in the Mercantile and General Office. Mr Swinley’s furniture, which was stored in the house, was not insured.
