COUNSEL ENGAGED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 5. The Departmental Inquiry into the conversations on the telephone used by the Operating Staff of the Auckland Telegraph Office during the Takapuna races on Saturday and Monday, is being continued. Some members have retained counsel if outside services are required. One of the'inspectors has returned! to Wellington headquarters to report. Ihe telephone in questions is known as the social phone of the operating staff. The members are greatly perturbed. All of those who used the ’phone on Saturday and Monday are being examined, especially as to talk bearing on tips and betting. ■- The notes df conversations record the words of those .at the other end of the wire as well: Betting conversations on the telegraph staff phone by officers on duty are prohibited by the Department’s rules.
