MAORI GAOLED. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] CARTERTON, Dec. 6. In Carterton Police Coutr this morning, before Justices, a full-blooded Maori, Taukuraki Kopa, aged 27 commonly known as Krooki, was charged with assaulting a young Maori girl/ aged ten, with intent to commit a crime. Evidence was given by the girl’s mother, sister and brother. The girl’s mother is also a sister of Krooki. The Justices stated they took a very serious view of the case and sentenced aeoused to six months hard.

DAMAGES GRANTED. NAPIER,, Dec. 6. Justice Ostler to-day delivered reserved judgment in a case in which John William McCoy (mining engineer of Auckland) claimed damages from Aard Motor Services Ltd., for injuries received in a collision between a service car in which plaintiff was a passenger and a private car near Dannevirke. His Honour held the cause of the accident was the- Service driver’s negligence awarded £1,224 damages against deendant. INDECENT EXPOSURE. DUNEDIN, Dec, 6. At the Police Court, James Ernest Gullen, aged 23, married, was charged with indecent exposure on the town belt and was, sentenced ,to three years reformative. BISHOP AND DEAN. HAMILTON, December G. At the Supreme Court, proceedings between Dean Barnett and Bishop Cherrnigton ended this morning, an interim injunction against the Bishop’s proposed inquiry into the Dean’s fitness to hold his present office being dismissed by Justice Herdman on the application of both parties. 'I he withdrawal of the case follows an agreement to refer the dispute to a committee appointed by Archbishop Averill. HON. RANSOM ILL. WELLINGTON, December 5. The Minister of Public Works, Hon. Air Ransom, who has been working at high pressure, especially in connection with the finding of work for the unemployed, was attacked hv a fainting fit, and collapsed at a meeting of the Cabinet. Medical aid was summoned. The Minister speedily recovered, but it was considered advisable that he should he removed to his residence. In the afternoon the Minister was reported to be greatly improved.
