AUSTRALIANS NOT YET IN FORM (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. The Australian swimmers made their final appearance at the carnival at the tepid baths to-night. . In the 880 yards scratch event, Ryan, the Australian, was defeated by G. Bridson by 18 yards. Bridson, -who is the New Zealand middle-distance champion, covered the distance in llmin 21 2-osecs, thus breaking D. P. Lindsay's New Zealand record by 4 1-osecs. Ryan swam better than he did on the previous night, but his form was nothing approaching his best time for the distance which is llmin 2secs. / ' The 50 yards invitation scratch race resulted in J. P. Farrell, the Auckland sprint champion, defeating Griffiths, the Australian, by a touch in 26 seconds.
