A party of twenty Canterbury representatives arrived at Reefton. on * Saturday night via Lewis Pass, to inspect the route of a proposed main highway. They expressed themselves as delighted with the easy grade and the wonderful scenery. They attended a public meeting where there was a large gathering, the CountE Chairman presiding The following resolution Was unanimously passed:—That this meeting of representatives from Canterbury and West Coast affirms the national importance of the speedy construction of a motor road between Canterbury and West Coast by way of Lewis ' Pass; also that representations be made to the general Government in order to have the work undertaken on an adequate scale immediately, and carried on without delay until completion. . .. , ...„ .... Further, that copies' of the' resolution be sent to M.’sP. of Canterbury, Westland and Nelson, with a request that they take all possible-steps jy have such a national, ;'highw|iy constructed. .
