In the tennis contest for the Davis Cup, in the singles, Yoshiro Ohta (Japan) defeated Vanryn (U.S.A.) 6—4, b—7, 2—6, 6—4, 7—5. In the doubles Hennessy and Vanryn defeated Ohta and Abe 6—3, 6—4, 6—2. INTERESTING RESULTS. WASHINGTON, May 25. United States eliminated Japan on Saturday from the Davis Cup, Vanryn. (defeated Abe 6—2, 4—6, .6—3, 6—2. TENNIS FASHIONS. QUESTION Ofr STOCKINGS. Mr Lareombe, Manager of the All England Club, admits that it is most probable the Committee will consider whether women competitors at Wimbledon will be allowed to play stocidngless. Helen Wills, who set the fashion in Europe, when interviewed seemed sceptical whether the club would venture to issue a rule on such a personal matter. Nevertheless she said she would not like to oppose it if it was the official ruling. When question Dalvarez, a fascinating player, expressed the opinion it was out of keeping to wear a frock with no stockings. “If they decided to wear bathing costumes for tennis, it would be an excellent idea.” TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.
