In regard to the balance ot the amount, the survey party to lay off contemplated deviations on the southern route, will be going south alvout Wednesday next. The Public Works Department is evidently intent o)n pushing through these southern works as rapidly , as possible.

'flic progress with regard to the bridges on the Main South Road necessary to complete between Harihari and Wailio, is being well maintained. Excellent progress was made with the erection of the bridge over Slatey Creek and the structure will soon lie out of band. A small bridge is to he erected on Harihari flat on the .main road, the material being on the ground, and this will he attended to very soon now. Bridge sites have been laid off for both McDonald’s and Red Jack’s bridges beyond Okarito Forks, and the material ordered. The material for Vine Creek bridge is also on order, and the bridges will be built as the material comes to hand. At both McDonald’s and Red Jacks road deviations are to he made which will improve the visibility and assist to shorten the Toute slightly. Beyond Wailio, the bridge site y at Docherty’s has been surveyed, and a site for a bridge will he laid off at the Oemoeroa crossing. As soon as designed the material for these bridges will be ordered, and their erection should be an accomplished fact within the year. In fact 1929 will witness the erection of quite a number of bridges in the south as well as great improvements in the roads and highways of the district generally.
