VICTORIA’S WORST CRIMINAL MELBOURNE, Oct. 28.

Although several theories are being advanced regarding the cause of last night’s shooting at Carlton, including one of jealousy over a woman, and another of revenge for the murder of Briilin in Sydney in June last, the ]«ilice discount this, and are of the opinion that it was the result of the longstanding Fitzory Gang vendetta. Cutinorc, like Taylor, was a notorious criminal, and was concerned in a great number of crimes of violence. The detectives state Taylor was the worst type in the criminal annals of Yirto ria.

BLUE MOUNTAINS MURDF.R. SYDNEY, Oct. 23.

The Full Court to-dav delivered its judgment on the application of the Higgs brothers for an injunction against the “Daily Guardian” on the ground that it had published matter calculated to prejudice tho public mind in connection with the charge against the three applicants of murdering the pastoralist, Leslie, on the Blue Mountains recently.

The High Court found the "Daily Guardian” guilty of contempt of court, but, instead of issuing a writ of attachment, the Court fined the proprietor two hundred pounds sterling, and, as the printer (Mr Packer) is only an officer of the company, he was ordered with the proprietors to pay tho cost of the application.

BIG PAPER DEAL. SYDNEY, Oct. 29.

The scheme for the “Sun” taking over the “Daily Telegraph” provides for “Telegraph” shareholders receiving a large proportion of the value of their present shares in cash, the balance remaining a.s share interest in the new Company.

A sensational shooting incident occurred here, when Will McKenzie. Secretary of the timber workers’ union was shot outside bis office, by Charles William Saunders, a. member of the Union, who then blew out bis own brains. McKenzie is not seriously wounded. It is alleged Saunders was actuated by supposed grievances against the Union.
