OTAKEHO.

FARMERS' UNION

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A meeting of the Farmers' Uunion was held on Saturday, Mr. E. T, Burke presiding ovd- a .fair attendance of mem_ bers.

The chairman explained, that at the last meeting it was decided to get Mr. Buckeridge to address this meeting, but as there, was a good deal to do arranging the dances, etc, he thought it advisable to get Mr. Buckeridge for the next meeting. The chairman's action was confirmed. Arrangements were then made in connection with the Annual Dance to be held on June 13th, and the Social Evening and Distribution of prizes to be held on June 20th. For the annual dance it was decided to make a-charge of gents 3s, ladies 2s, and to call a meeting of ladies for Friday June 6th, at 2 p.m., to arrange for the supper, etc. It was decided to run the social evening and distribution of prizes on the same lines as last year, the ladies to be given an absolutely free night, and all arrangements to be carried ou*t by the members.

i The chairman then called on Mr. S. Eennett, delegate to the annual conference, to give a brief outline of the remits, etc., dealt with. Mr. Bennett dealt very ably with the remits brought forward, especially in connection with the remit from the local branch re semi-official testing, the speaker stating that after a good discussion this remit was carried unanimously. At the conclusion. Mr. Bennett remarked that, unfortunately in other parts of Taranaki the farmers were not giving the Farmers' Union the support they undoubtedly should, and the consequence was that at the present time it was questionable whether the Executive would be able to carry on, but a meeting would shortly be held in Hawera, and he hoped something would be done. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Bennett for representing the branch at the conference, and for the manner in which he explained the matters dea't with. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. HALL SOCIETY.

The ball to be held o Wednesday, June 4 th. by the Hall Society- in aid of the hall improvements, promises to equal, if not excel, any previous ball held in the hall. Ladies' and gents' committees have every detail well in hand, and with an excellent floor, excellent music to be suplied by Cosgrove's Orchestra, and the usual Otakeho supper, a pood evening's enjoyment is assured. Given a fine night the hall will be packed and the Society's funds considerably increased. Particulars appear in this issue.
