OIL SCANDAL.

FALL OF MR, DENBY

BY CABLB-PBE3S ASSOCIATION-COPYEIGTTr. WASHINGTON, Feb. 27. | The Republican National Committee has' turned its guns against Senator Walsh (Democrat), alleging that he! fathered the Bill under which the fall' of Mr, E. Denby (late Secretary for the i Navy) was negotiated as a result of 'the oil leases scandal. Senator Walsh immediately denied this, and Senator Lenroot, the administration spokesman, rose in the Senate in defence of Senator Walsh, thereby widening the breach within the Republican organisation. The committee has meanwhile published a score of telegrams, involving notably President Ooolidge's secretary, Mr. W. G. McAdoo's son, and Mr. A. M. Palmer, who was ex-President Wilson's Attorney-General all of whom planned to apply unofficial pressure to compel Senator Walsh to drop the inquiry against certain witnesses. Mr. H. M. Baugherty (AttorneyGeneral), following two White House conferences to-day, hurriedly entrained for Chicago and Florida, supposedly upon pressing Government business. He stated: "It is not my purpose even to consider resigning, except after a fair hearing of the charges against me."
