OTIRA TUNNEL.

So far as the Public Works Department is concerned, the Otira tunkiel sh©uld be able to carry traffic in a week. The first main line electric locomotive will be tested under full power to-morrow. The electrical .signalling system is complete between Otira ami the IJealey end of the tunnel, but some overhead wiring is still required at stations. The biggest cause of delay in the opening of the tunnel to trafficwill be in the training of drivers of the electric locomotives. This training has not begim yet. and it will take months, a small goods train being used first
