LORRY DRIVER KILLED.

COLLISION AT LEVEL CROSSING.. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION ) WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. ' After passing Porirua station on itsway northwards this- afternoon, the : Auckland-bound express, which left j N ellington at 12.45 p.m., crashed into ; a motor lorry on a crossing ' The driver of the lorry and a companion received the full-effect of the collision, one being killed and the other seriously injured. The injured man was- attended by a .doctor from the Mental! Hospital, while | the body of the othe,r was conveyed to | the hospital. The engine drawing the train was damaged and' was unable to proceed, the train being, hung up till another engine reached the scene from Paekakariki. The driver who was killed was John Edwin Canning, a married ' man, 48 years of age, residing at 34 May Street, Wellington. He was a ' brother of Constable Canning, of Well- ' ington.
