CROQUET.

ELTHAM CLUB

There was a record attendance at the official opening of the Eltham Croquet Club's lawns on Thursday afternoon, the number present being estimated at over 100, and including visitors from Whangarei, Auckland. New Plymouth, Inglewood r Stratford^ and Hawera. The president (Mrs. H. G. Carman) welcomed the visitors, and wished the club a successful season. A golf-croquet tournament was commenced, but unfortunately rain intervened and prevented its completion. When play was stopped the trophies were awarded to the two leading ladies, Mrs. Bilton (Hawera) an<l Mrs. Weston (Stratford). The club is arranging to play matches this season with the Hawera and Manaia Clubs. These will take place at an early date.
