We challenge the Trade to disprove the following evidence that the American people have voted on National Prohibition: (1) That 21 States adopted Prohibition j by popular vote, and that 62f mil- ! lion people were satisfied with Prohibition before their own Legislatures appioved of National Pro- [ hibition. ! (2) That when States have voted on 1 the question whether Prohibition - shall continue they have increased their original majority in favour. (3> That after Congress hjtd passed National Prohibition by an 80 per cent. majority 45 out of 48 States approved of it and 50 made it part of the American Constitution. (4) That New York" State, where most of the Prohibition law breakers are to be found, was one of the four States -H-hieh opposed National Prohibition in Congress. (5) That 47 out of 48 State Governors, practically all the educational authorities, the churches, the women's social betterment organisations and over 90 per cent, of thebig manufacturing firms are solidly behind Prohibition. (6) That President Harding says: "The liquor traffic Avas destructive of much that was precious in American life," and "in another generation will have disappeared . . ♦ from our memories."
