ATTEMPT TO INJURE STEAMERS.
RIOTS AT BALTIMORE

NEW YORK, May 7
In connection with the shipping strike violence has increased, following the operators' rejection of the suggested compromise on wage reduction. Several strikers, armed with clubs, have been arrested at Philadelphia. Steamers have been forced to anchor in midstream in order to escape the attacking strikers. At Newport News the Shipping Board steamer William - Antic was found with all her seacocks open a»d (fifteen feet of water in her holds. Riots at -.Baltimore caused Admiral Benson to threaten to remove all Shipping Board ships from that port. Fifteen strikers were arrested, and the court warned strikers against picketing ships. At New Orleans three members of a non-striking crew were severely injured by strikers. Reports from - Alaska / show that Alaska is in serious straits, due to a lack of supplies owing to the strike. All Imsinesses have practically closed.
