At a meeting of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce held on Friday the half-holiday Question was discussed, Mr. P. E. Stainton reporting that preparations were well forward in the direction of petitioning the Borough Council to take a poll on the question in April, to give burgesses an opportunity ~of voting on. the Saturday and Thursday; issues. Matters in dbnnection with the proposed time-table "alterations were under review, arid it was decided to again communicate .with the deoartment, r in 'vrder'that the question should not be i lost sight of.—Nsws. • The chairman of the Eltham School 'ynmittee (Mr I. J.ypridger) has received a telegram from the Education Board intimating that the Education Department's sanction must be obtained before any definite action can be taken in regard io re-establishing the district r*i school in Eltham. The Argus stntes that this "red tape" will probably make it impossible to re-establish the school this year,. and Mr. Bridger is recommending the children to go elsewhere. In the meantime he is placing the matter before the Minister of Education (Hon. G.J. Parr).
