The contest was a very good one, and the finish was very keen. Prior to the last race, Mr Given. thanked the public for the support which had been extended to the carnival. Earlier in the evening thejre hact been a consultation as to putting the carnival off, but they were pleased, in the light of the support accorded the carnival, that it had not been postponed. He hoped that on th<j next occasion there would be hetter weather.

The carnival ended with the band playing the National Anthem.
