GOVERNMENT PURCHASES AN

ESTATE

LAND LEGISLATION

[By Telegraph—Special to Star.] WELLINGTON, July 13. The Government has authorised the purchase of the Sheridan estate, of about 8,300 acres, in Hawke's Bay, owned by Mr J. Lethbridge. Eighty per cent.* of the land is ploughable. Tlie Government has also given instructions for the examination of half-a-dozen other estates. Asked if any land legislation was likely this session, the Prime Minister. Mr AY. F. Massey, replied: "There will be land legislation this session. I am not prepared to say whether we shal' have time to face the big policy questions on that matter; that must be dealt with, but there must be legislation on that matter; that must be have to be dealt with by statute."
