NEWCASTLE COLLERIES
FURTHER CESSATION OF AVORK PROBABLE.
4Y CARLE— PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT (Received July 13, 11.45 a.m.) NEWCASTLE, July 13. Another batch of men has given notice to discontinue work at various collieries, and it is tolerably certain that the wheelers and surface hands in the Newcastle district have determined to cease work in preference to allowing their case to be decided by the Collieries Conciliation Committee. It is probable that nine collieries will be involved.
The Hawera railway staff have made arrangements to hold their annual ball in the Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday, August 20. Owing to the limited room, the committee have decided to admit by ticket only. Moosman's Orchestra has been engaged. In addition to the programme advertised, there will be a hot sox competition for gentlemen at the plain and fancy dress Cinderella Skating Carnival to be held in the Dominion Skating Rink on Friday, July 19. Refreshments may be had at moderate charges.
