"NOT A SCOUNDREL."

WELLINGTON, July 31.

The sequel to the recent case in which a young pman was sent to gaol for 21 days for exposing her child in a manner likely to injure its health, but was released three days later, in consequence of a strong public agitation, was heard in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Thomas Wells was adjudged the father of the child. Counsel for defendant stated that his client had offered to marry the jgprl, and would do so now if she was willing. He was not the unmitigated scoundrel that some people had held him out to be. Wells was ordered to contribute 7s 6d per week towards his child's support.
