CANTERBURY v. SOUTH CANTERBURY. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 24. | A cricket match between Canterbury and South Canterbury was commenced today. At the call of time, South Canterbury had made 59 in their first innings, and Canterbury 203 for seven wickets. EXCELSIOR v. KAPONGA. The game started very late on Thursday, and ended by seven o'clock, one innings each, the locals having a substantial win of 201. for eight wickets to 83. ErcelsioT batted first", E. Cole and H. Elliott going in to the bowling of Fdaron and Trower. Fearon's first ball knocked off Cole's bails. Haggett joined Elliott, and the partnership resulted in a big addition' to the score, both batsmen playing sterling cricket. After scoring a- well earned 44 Haggett was caught by Glaister. Elliott continued to play a faultless and chancelees innings, ably assisted by Parry and Sargeson and Syme. The innings was declared closed at 201 for eight vEckels. Elliott (102 not out) was loudly cheered on returning to the pavilion ; in fact, both with bat and ball H. Elliott was the hero of the day, for he subsequently took six \vicket6 for sixteen runs. For Kaponga Howard and Fearon did some smart running' between thei wickets, making 21 and 2^ respectively, but they were the only visiting batsmen to reach double figures. The innings ended for a total of 83. During thf\ game play was interrupted by rain, which caused some delay. The match otherwise wae interesting and enjoyable. Mts (Dr) Maclagan was an efficient scorer for Kaponga, and bravely continued her duties as 6uch . till the very late finish.
