NORMANBY TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the above took place on Monday evening. Present : Commissioners Rowe (chair), C. A. Bates, H. McKoy, and J. W. Jackson. , Correspondence. From Inspector of Factories re fixing day for statutory .half -holiday, „ From Clerk of Inglewood Town Board, stating that the licence fee charged for billiard room was JB3 per aonjm, but that their Board generally refunded £2 from the fee charged. The following letter was received by the Board : — "Sir, — With reference to previous correspondence on the above mentioned subject, I am now directed by tl-e jtton. Minister for Public Works to inform you that his Excellency the Governor ha>> been pleased to appoint Mr W. S. Short, of Wellington, solicitor, to be a Commissioner to hold an inquiry into this cass, in. terms of section 321 of the Counties Act, 1886. The Commissioner has been instructed to inquire into and ascertain by all lawful ways and means : — (1) What are the facts involved in the dispute; (2) wlaether or not the. county roads lyintr within the boundaries of the Normanby Town District have been legally placed under the control of the Normanby Town Board (3) whether the said Beard is legally responsible for the maintenance .>f the said roads; (4) whether the. said Board has power to make and levy county rates within its district ; (5) whether such rates are sufficient to maintain the said roads in proper repair, and- if not what local body is legaJly responsible to pro vide such deficiency, or to maintain such roads. This being so, it will be necessary for your Board to be represented at the inquiry, and to adduce thereat such evidence as will, in the opinion ■ of your Board, be sufficient to support its view of the case, Mr Short, will give due notice of the time and place at which the inquiry will be held."-— lt was resolved, xiiat the Chairman' act in conjunction with Mr Caplen on behaflf of the Board in this matter.

Inspector's Report. Mr Howard, Inspector to the Board, ieported everything as being satisfactory. Resolved, That the Inspector's ieppr v be received.

Obstructions.

Resolved, That the School Coinmittoe be communicated with, asking that the pine branches overhanging the footpath at the school be cut down, as complaints havu been received by the Board in reference to same.

Resolved, That notice be given to Mr Hurliman to remove obstruction off Weld street, so that the street can be opened for traffic at ,once.

Dog Tax. It was decided that the registration fee for dogs be 5s for present year. Resolved, That Mr Lloyd be appoint -i\ collector of dog tax at a remuneration of 20 per cent, on amount collected.

Electric Light. Resolved, That the « ferk communicate with Mr Swift, foreman of works, asking him to inspect footpaths, kerbing, etc., where the 'electric light gang have been working putting in poles throughout the township.
