ELTHAM.

(FROM 'OCR RESIDENT AGENT.)

A sitting of tho Police Court was held on Saturday morning, when quite a small army of parents were charged with breaches of the School Aot. In all cases but one fines were imposed. The presiding justices were Messrs J. B. Godkin and Graves. Mr McAra, of the New Plymouth office, acted a? Clerk of the Court.

Constable Simpson is at present in Christchurch attending the sitting of the Supreme Court. Constable Fitzpatrick is doing duty until Constable Simpson's return.

The weather on Saturday was boisterous, the wind being very strong, causing clouds of dust.

Messrs Cattanach and Robinson have just imported from Auckland a hooded brake, a class of vehicle which has been needed for a long time. The brake will seat eighteen persons, and can be drawn by either three, four, or five horses. It runs very smoothly, and its beam is of such dimensions as to render a capsize almost impossible. The hood may be removed if required, but in stormy weather the lowering of the blinds will make the vehicle most comfortable. The seats are of red plush, and the whole finish of the brake is excellent. Mr Cattanach went to Auckland specially to secure the brake, and his selection has been a happy one. The enterprise of the firm is certain to be rewarded, and the brake will be in great demand for picnic parties, etc. February 17.
