BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (Mr C. E. Major), and Crs. McAneny, Sargeson, Morrissey, Fake, Robbins, Parkin, Brunette, and Haughey.

The Council went into Committee. On resuming, the folio whig business was confirmed : —

FIRE BRIGADE STATION.

The tender of Mr A. Pacey for erection of Fire Brigade Station was accepted.

SCHOOL DRAINAGE.

The Council decided to leave in the hands of Cr Robbins the request of the Wanganui Education Board that the Borough Foreman should supervise the connection of District High School closets with the drainage system.

It was resolved, That the solicitor's fee for perusal of documents in connection with Council business shall not exceed one guinea each.

ABATTOIRS.

Plans and specifications of abattoirs, as prepared by Mr Blake, of Wellington, were referred to the Abattoirs Committee.

Plans of Hawera Hotel and premises for Messrs Lewis, Coburn, Arbuckle, and Cullinan were referred to the Plans Committee, with power to act.

WELMNOTON GARRISON BAND.

In accordance with request, it was decided to give the patronage of Mayor and councillors to a concert to be given at an early date by the Wellington Garrison Band.

TENDER.

The tender of Mr Whittington for building of flushing tank and two manholes was accepted.

PLANS COMMITTEE.

Cr McAneny was elected a member of the Plans Committee.

ACCEPTED.

. James Webby accepted the Council's terms regarding occupation of cottage on sec. 9, provided the house is made habitable. •

Mr Clarson, architect, will be asked to report to Reserves Committee on the matter of rendering the cottage habitable.

The Baths Committee will confer with Mr Clarson in regard to baths.

WATER. The request of Mrs Alexander and Mr Lovell, Okaiawa, for water connection, will be granted.

It was also decided to carry the water along Camberwell road.

BLTHAM FIRE BBIGADH.

In reply to request of Eltham Borcugh Council, it was decided to lease that body one of the manual engines, with a compulsory purchasing clause, the price to be JGIOO, and the rent £5 per annum. The Eltham Council is to be asked at what date it will be prepared to effect purchase.

RESERVES.

It was resolved to call for tenders for lease of unlet reserves.

INSPECTOR.

Mr Howard will be asked to carry on the duties of inspector until such time as the Committee set up reports.

SBWAGB.

Cr Sargeeon said the drainage outfall should have a notice board, warning strangers. The matter will be attended to. The Council rose.
