LONDON'S CHARITIES.

In the 1902 edition of the Classified Directory to the Metropolitan Charities, there is a vast store of information of public interest.

On page xxii., for example, there stands a table whioh gives in brief abstract a summary of the total income of London's oharities. That income comes co the enormous amount of £6,6,481,062.

The nineteen general hospitals receive £456,282 a year, and the speoial hospitals, dispensaries, and institutions obtain another £506,727.

lnstitutions for general relief reoeive £688,482, and oharities for the blind, deaf, dumb, incurable, and idiot, £216,760. Orphanges command an average income of £175,000, and educational institutions receivo £499,726. But the largest income of the g&g^ class is ohiefly spent ctn&fc'ifoAdoti and Deyoi&~iti6>«tojißetß of the oolony. London societies for foreign missions had an income thlß last year of no less than £1,289,070. On the other hand, societies devoted to home missions were so well supported as to be able to return a total inoome of just upon £1,000,000.

His Honor Distriot Judge Kettle is strongly of opinion that nowadays, when wives hold so much property, landlords would be wise to make them join with their husbands in agreements. The principle might even be extended to dealings between husbandß and tradesmen.
