NEW ZEALAND'S TOTAL OFFER

Wellington, February 8. The Minister of Defence has been in formed by latest advices that the follow ing numbers of men offered for th Ninth Contingent at the respecrfv centres :— Hawera 208, New Plymout 167, Wellington 900 men and 124 a{ plications for commissions, Gisborn 42, Napier 210, Masterton 220, Dannt virke 62, Palmerston North 259, Wao ganui 310, Auckland 940 (includin applicants for commissions), Canterbur district 594 (for 202 vacancies), Otag 994. This makes a total of 5150, exck sive of Marlborough and Nelson, whic will probably offer about 250, thu making a grand total of 5400 for 100 vacancies.
The totals for the various luilitar districts are :— Wellington 2622, Audi land 940, Canterbury 594, Otago 994.
A number of the friends of tbe eleve troopers who left by express to join th Ninth Contingent at Auokland were a the station to bid them farewell. A the tram steamed out Capt. Majo wished them good luck, and called fo three cheers, which were heartily given.
