Woodvillb, February 6. On Monday the Railway Department will try the experiment of running trains from here to Napier and back tbe same day. The Woodville people bave been agitating for this concession for yews.
Auckland, February 6. In the Supreme Court a Maori named I Roha, who assaulted a native woman living with him as his wife, was sentenced to five years. Roha bit the top off one of her fingers and inflicted severe wounds on her head.
Wellington, February 6. At the Chambers of Commerce Conference, tbe Committee, on the question of federation of Chambers, reported that they had not had time to go into the main question, but if the Conference considered it desirable to federate, the lines of the general council of federated Chambers of Australia, with a slight alteration, would prove suitable here. A resolution was passed in favour of forming a federation much on the lines of the Australian Association, and it was resolved that the Auckland Chamber be asked to take steps to give effect to thia resolution. Tbe motion by, Mr Cobbe(Feilding) in favour of State fire insurance, was discussion this morniug.
