Hamilton, January 81. The body of Mr R. N. C. Tennent, drowned on Monday in the Waikato river, Hamilton, has been found.

Gisbobnk, January 81. John Fletcher, aged about 25, against whom charges of attempted murder and attempted suicide were pending, died at the hospital at nine to-night from the effects of oarbolio.

Through an explosion of gas in a boardinghouse at Invnrcargill on Thursday, one young woman was considerably scorched and another in a lesser degree. The landlady, Mrs Judge, was rendered unconscious, and the house set on fire. It was known tbat gas was escaping, but someone struck a match and this caused the explosion. The fire brigade Bayed the building.

Mr J. W. Deem, Stock Inspector, annoancea that he will attend at several centres on dates given for the purpose of purchasing horees for the Ninth Contingent.

The committee of the Christohurch Chamber of Commerce oousiders that the conditions for tendering for frozen meat for the Army in South Afrioa are unsuitable to New Zealand shippers, but that the Government should endeavour to arrange for speoial provision being made in future oontraots for the inclusion of suitable New Zealand meat, and that ample notice should be given in the oolony before tenders close.
