Sydnby, February 1. The troopships Manchester Merchant and St. Andrew have arrived.

The Custodian and Antillian are --. expected in a few days to convey the ' ' Commonwealth Contingent to the Cape. The Anti-War League has forwarded a petition to the Political and Labour Conference requesting them to sign it, but tho Conference, by one vote, declined.

Wanganui, Febiuary 1.

For tho Ninth Contingent 242 applicants have already been received for the Wanganui's quota of twenty-five.

The following men who have applied to join the Ninth Contingent are requested to assemble at the Show Ground at 10.30 on Monday morning : — A. Granthatn, W. J. Carbis, C. W. Hansman, W. Treanor, J. Conuary, Albert Joneß, W. H. Hawkins, W. S. Hendrioks, E. N. Johns, Arthur Powell, John Marshall, W. E. HarrisoD, A. J. Gassidy, Fred. Kelly, F. A. Horneman, Geo. Morton, J. C. Wood, J. M. Wormmald, A. J. Allan, Wm. Austin, M. McLeod, A. Baker, A. W. Greig, W. R. Menhennet, T. A. Dickinson, F. Leisky, H. Peacock, R. Tierney, Wro. Davison, A. H. Coffey, John Silvestar, Geo. Scott, H. G. Presoott. About 150 applications were received. A number of the applicants have not stated whether they are trained men or not, so that they have not been inoludcd in the above list.
