ALLEGED INFANTICIDE AT MASTERTON.

(per pbess assocaition). Mastbrton, January 30. The inquest on the body of a newlyborn infant found in the boiler of a furnace at McKenzie's butcher's shop was resumed. The girl Kate Alexander, alleged to be the mother, is still in the hospital. Mr Pownall, counsel for accused, complained that the Rev. R. Wood, Presbyterian Minister, bad interviewed the accused girl at the hospital, notwithstanding the objection of the matron and the fact that accused was under police surveillance, and it is' alleged endeavoured to extract an admission of guilt from the girl. The minister states that he went to administer spiritual oomfort at the request of the girl's mother. An inquiry into this matter took place at tbe hospital. It lasted three hours, but had no practical result. Tbe inquest is proceeding.
