Beceived January 24, 9.55 p.m.

London, January 23. Mr J. L. Wanklyn (Bradford) shortly moves, and Mr J. C. Wason (Orkney) seconds, an amendment to the Address-in-Beply, urging the prosecution of proBoers for seditious utterances. They quote Mr Seddon's remarks on the subject.

[Mr Wason was formerly in the New Zealand Parliament.] Beoeived January 25, 1 a.m.

London, January 25.

Mr William Redmond (Glare East),, moved an amendment to the Address-in-Reply, complaining of the Government's refusal of a measure of compulsory land purchase, revival of coercion, and the suppression of free speech. He declared that resistance was a duty, while rebellion was a question of ex* pediency. /

Mr J. P. Hayden (Boscommon), in seconding the motion, asserted that there were 2000 branches of the Land League.

The Bight Hon. G. Wyndham, Chief Secretary for Ireland, in reply, said that out of 211 landlords now boycotted, only 27 cases were attributable to the League. He admitted that in 26 cases the League's branches were exercising a prejudicial economic effect. An illconsidered scheme of compulsory land purchase must defer for years the housing of the British poor. The Government intends to further all necessary agricultural and industrial projects in Ireland.
