MEAT TRADE.

In its commercial article, the Wellington Post, referring to the meat trade, says :—: — "As anticipated last week, the London market is improving, and values show a decided upward tendency. Slocks have run down, and this* is the reason for the advance in values. Heavy shipments will be going forward from now, and after the end of naxt month, when the new shipments begin to reach the market, prices will fall. The Otago and Southland freezing companies which have been closed down are about to resume operations. The Burnsidc Company was to commence work this week, and it was anticipated that the prices for 601b wethers would range from 11s to 12s, which is really not quite as good as the average prices ruling in this district. A good demand appears to exist for butchers' mutton both in Canterbury and Otago, and for heavy tallowy sheep there is a fairly good market at extreme rates. It is a temporary market, however.
