Napier, October 8.

A youth of 12, named Auld, son of the uewly-appointed master of Elsthorpe School, fell into the river while fishing, and was drowned.

JDdnedin, October 8.

John Harris, about 65 years of age, employed as a gardenor, was found dead this morning. A bottle of strychnine was found alongside. At the inquest, the medical man who had made the post-mortem could not say definitely the cause of death, and the inquiry was adjourned to permit of the stomach being analysed. The deceased, who was an old age pensioner, was a widower, and has a son living.
