ATTEMPT TO WRECK A TRAIN.

(PEE PEKSB ASSOCIATION.) Chbistohuboh, October 9.

An attempt was made last night to wreck the 9.10 p.m. train from Christchurch to Lyttelton.

Two short pieces of 401b rails had been jammed ia between each of the rails and the longitudinal sleepers, as well as a piece of rail clip. The train had forced the piece of rail into the sleeper, which, fortunately, was rotten, and this had allowed the flange of the wheels to pass between the rail and the obstruction and thus a serious i accident was averted,-
