Wellington, October 8. Argument was not finished to-day in the Appeal Court in the case of Glenny v. Rathbone. A. further point was raised whether the doctrine that possession of land imputes knowledge of hte title to a person dealing with the property is affected by the Deeds Registration Act.

The steamer Duco returned to-night, having steamed twenty miles beyond Palliser Bay in search of possible wreckage from the Mildura. There is not a vestige of anything to be seen. Napier, October 8.

The principal stable at Crissoge, the residence of Mr G. P. Donnelly, was totally destroyed by five last "night. There were four valuable young thoroughbreds in the boxes, and only one could be got out. The other three were burned, with a large quantity of feed and harness.

At a meeting of shareholders of the Gold Czar Dredging Company, it was decided that the company be voluntarily wound up.

A cable message has been received by the Secretary of the North Island Brass Bands' Association stating that the Intercolonial Brass Bands' Contest at Ballarat resulted as follows: — Lord Nelson Band, Ararat, Victoria, first; Bathurst, second ; Ballarat, third. Christchurch, October 9.,

The Mayor has received a telegram from the Premier stating that in view of a cable received to the effect that Lord Roberts intends issuing a proclamation on the subject, the Government are deferring taking action, but the Premier can at all events say that Peace Day will not be proclaimed until some time in November.
