The housekeeper at Welbeck Abbey was almost suffocated, and rescued, with the Duke of Portland's children, with difficulty. The Duke and Duchess oi Portland were absent at Caithness. The damage by the fire is estimated at J5'25,000. Much silk tapestry was destroyed.
