LORD LOCH SEVERELY WOUNDED.
Received Ootober 8, 9 a.m. London, Ootober 7. Captain Lord Loch, of the Grenadier Guards, has been severely wounded. The prisoners (48 cavalry) who were taken with a oonvoy on the Natal border by the Boers have been released. The Boers retained a Hotohkias gun whioh the cavalry had. Sir Alfred Milner deprecates any immigration to the goldfields before January next. A deputation from South Africa to Great Britain has issued a stirring manifesto to the electors of Great Britain, stating that the Motherland alone is able to work the burghers' salvation. Mrs Lewis, sister of the Right Hon. W. P. Sohreiner, accompanied the deputation. A rich Dutchman offered Kruger Anderlecht Castle, Brussels, as a residence. Received October 8, 9.15 a.m.
London, October 7. General Baden-Powell declares that tho garrison of Mafeking might have slipped away from the town at any time, but he simply adhered to his instruct tions, which were to draw the Boers off the colonies of Rhodesia and Bechuanaland.
