MANAIA.

« (from otjr own correspondent.) On Tuesday night last the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Manaia Lodge was held, Bro. Cave, N.G., presiding. The secretary reported that the Rev. A. W. Compton bad informed him that Bishop Wallis had signified his intention of addressing the lodge on Tuesday night, 6th prox., if the lodge so desired. It was reBOlved that the Bishop's offer be aooepted, and that the matter be advertised; also that Hawera brethren be invited. Bro. Gave acted as lecture master in the absenoe of Bro. Fieldes. Bro. Fitton was requested to represent the lodge at the reoeption to be given to Bro. Bellringer, the distriot secretary, on his return from England. During the evening one member was initiated. The Waimate Road Board started yesterday making side tracks with the grader between the Eapuni Btream and the Inaha road. Mr Williscroft is the successful tenderer {or the Bank of New Zealand's new 'building. An Auokland builder has eeoured the contract for re-building of the Manaia Hotel. Quite an excitement was worked up yesterday afternoon in sporting oiroles. Two well known wrestlers engaged in a few bouts, and money was being wagered freely. A great deal of interest is felt in the coming visit here of Phyllis Ferrier, the olever ohild mimic, as she has so often been spoken and read of. I understand she has entertained society all over Australia and New Zealand, and has twice had the honor of a hearing at Government House. Lord Banfurly expressed himself as highly amused by her very droll mimicries. A few days since I was shown an account that had been rendered for 2d, and it took a Id stamp to carry it through the post. The debtor returned the account with a cheque enclosed for the 2d, and the creditor will ne<jd to pay 6d exchange ■on the cheque if he presents same.
